Motorists in London are the most likely to help out a damsel in distress, according to a new experiment. Motorists in London are the most likely to help out a fellow driver in need, new research from Goodyear shows. Researchers from the tyre manufacturer conducted tests throughout the country to see how many drivers would stop and help a female driver stuck on the side of the road with a flat tyre. It found that those people in the capital were the most willing to lend a helping hand, with the first stopping in just 16 minutes and then a continuous stream of other motorists also pulled over to assist. 16 minutes standing in Kennington Road, near Elephant and Castle, a driver stopped. Then one after the other they pulled over. As one left, someone else turned up. "I was shocked. It was completely not what I expected. I was thinking it would be a long, lonely two hours in London." Leeds on the otherhand was an interesting experience for the 'damsel' with not one of the 1,370 motorists counted driving past stopping to assist her. The remainder of the country was similarly cold with no assistance given in Southampton, Manchester, Bristol, Sheffield and Newcastle and just two people stopping in Middlesborough and Glasgow and one person stopping in Liverpool and Birmingham. Waiting for public assistance when your car breaks down can be time consuming and as the survey shows, possibly in vain. Many motor companies help their customers by providing them with call out assistance.
