Female car insurance costs could rise as driving offences soar

Female driving offences have shot up over the last five years, and car insurance costs could follow.

Women car insurance may soon be rising, as the level of driving-related offences committed by females soars.

The latest figures from the Welsh Assembly have revealed a huge upturn in the number of motoring offences caused by female drivers over the last five years, meaning car insurance costs could rise for the fairer sex.

Although the level of motoring offences among women is still much lower than among men, rising numbers of convictions could mean car insurance providers may be less inclined to offer a cheaper car insurance quote to female

drivers in the future.

The number of convictions rose by 52 per cent over the last five years, according to the new figures, with drink and drug driving incidents rising by 16 per cent and driving licence offences increasing by 34 per cent.

Over the same period, careless driving incidents by women soared by 76 per cent and speeding convictions rose by a massive 148 per cent.

And feminine charm will no longer get women off the hook when it comes to a speeding ticket.

Edmund King, director of the RAC Foundation, told the Western Mail: "Speed cameras don't discriminate whether the car is driven by a male or female. In the past perhaps it may have been easier in some circumstances for a female to get off an offence rather than a male."
