Women warned over car insurance apathy

As female car insurance is known to be cheaper than mens', many women are not bothering to shop around for better deals.

Female drivers are being urged still further to shop around for cheap car insurance, as complacency could be costing them thousands.

Sainsbury's Car Insurance has claimed that female motorists are losing out on their car insurance as many are simply assuming they are getting a better deal than their male counterparts and not bothering to compare car insurance. As women are, statistically, safer drivers, the car insurance firm admits there are a glut of cheap women car insurance deals available on the market, yet points out that

many women simply renew their deals with their existing lender. Research from the bank revealed that in January this year, car insurance premiums for women were on average £61 less than for men. Will Blackett, car insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank, admitted that male drivers account for the majority of motoring convictions. He pointed out that young male motorists cause "considerably more accidents" than similarly aged female drivers. "It's a given that all insurers take this into account and generally provide cheaper quotes to women than men," said Mr Blackett. "Women motorists need to be aware that these savings can vary dramatically and should seek a range of quotes — not just from their existing insurer or women only policies."
