Sat-nav systems ‘up car insurance costs’

Satellite navigation systems are causing drivers all sorts of problems, and could be increasing their car insurance. Satellite navigation systems are proving more and more hazardous for motorists, according to new research. Car insurance provider Privilege claims that in-car navigation systems could be more trouble than they are worth for some drivers, as many use the controls for the systems while they are driving. Ian Parker, managing director of Privilege Insurance, said: "Privilege urges drivers to spend a few minutes planning their route on a map or internet route finder so they can concentrate on the road once they set off." Almost one in eight drivers who use a satellite navigation system

confess they do not spend any time planning a route they are unfamiliar with before setting off, leaving the electronic equipment to take over. This can result in some unfortunate mishaps, such as drivers being diverted down a deep ford in Luckington, Wiltshire, which plunges cars into four feet of water. This inevitably leads to some costly car insurance claims for drivers, who may often loose their no claims bonus. Drivers searching for a cheap car insurance quote are advised to look for the cheapest deals online, and to compare car insurance deals to find the best offer.
