Keep your keys under close guard

UK drivers are being urged to keep their keys under close guard to prevent uncessary thefts and insurance risks. Car insurance is becoming ever increasingly more important for motorists as thieves come up with more ingenious ways of thieving your vehicle. According to the "Under lock and key" survey from AA Insurance, carelessness with our keys is contributing to a car being stolen every 60 seconds in the UK every year. AA says modern cars are extremely difficult to steal without the keys but thieves are still managing thanks to carelessness from drivers and new techniques from criminals. Kevin Sinclair, managing director AA Insurance said: "Thieves are turning to

more ingenious ways to steal keys such as hooking them off a hall table or key rack by ?fishing? through the letterbox, so keep keys well away from the front door. "And, what?s even more amazing, is the large number of people who literally offer an open invitation to thieves by leaving their cars unlocked, unattended and with the keys in the ignition ? and even with the engine running on frosty mornings." The survey found that in winter 20 per cent of people admitted to leaving keys in the car ignition with the engine running every morning and go back into the house to wait for the car to defrost. Mr Sinclair said many insurance companies could take a "very dim view" of a theft claim under such circumstances, and may even refuse to pay the claim.
