Frozen squirrels top bizarre car insurance claims

Norwich Union has compiled a list of some of the most bizarre car insurance claims - with frozen squirrels topping the list. Frozen squirrels causing damage to vehicles has topped the list of bizarre car insurance claims, according to a new survey. The list, compiled by car and motorbike insurance firm Norwich Union, found that damage caused by freak incidents involving animals are at the top of the list of bizarre claims, closely followed by incidents involving food. One incident of a wasp flying up a motorist's trouser leg causing him to accelerate into the car in front was just beaten by a kebab flying out of an open door round

a bend, causing damage to passing vehicles. Sally Leeman of Norwich Union said: "We see a lot of strange claims but we were surprised at how many involved animals and food, of all things. "We can hardly tell drivers to beware of flying kebabs and frozen squirrels when they're on the roads, but this shows how important it is to be aware of what's going on around you at all times." Norwich Union, which provides car insurance for around one in seven motor vehicles, also recalled claims as bizarre as a potato being lodged behind the brake, and a cow deciding to leap on top of a quad bike. "Who would have thought that frozen squirrels and potatoes could be such hazards!" said Ms Leeman.
