Britons are involved in more car accidents and claim on their car insurance more often than they realise, claims a new study.
Britons will rack up around almost ten accidents each during their lifetime, meaning many more claims on their car insurance than they would think, according to new research.
Figures from car and motorbike insurance provider Churchill has shown that there are 3.9 million car accidents in the UK each year, which means that 7.4 car accidents occur every minute of every day on the nation's roads.
Combating the age-old theory that women are better drivers than men, the figures reveal that women are involved in an accident every
six years and seven months, whilst men only manage to crash once every seven years and one month.
However, women generally find a cheaper car insurance quote than men as their accidents are often smaller meaning they will not claim on their car insurance.
Darren McCauley, head of car insurance at Churchill, said, "People will be surprised at how frequently they need to make a car insurance claim over their lifetime, which highlights the need for comprehensive insurance."
Mr McCauley also added that both male and female motorists are likely to claim on their motor insurance for windscreen damage at least three times in their lives.
He said: "Car accidents are one of the less enjoyable things about being a driver, but it’s inevitable that you will have to make a claim at some point.
"However competent you are at driving, you cannot avoid someone hitting your car when it’s parked or an object hitting your windscreen causing its repair or replacement."
